[ ETYMOLOGY ]
Amethyst is derived from the Greek word “Amethystos”, a term that dates back to Roman and Greek times and recalls the wine purple color of the Order.
According to a legend, Amethystos, the Order’s first Youth, saved the Kingdom of Ancient Egypt from a flood of the river Nile. To keep its Order safe, Amethystos wore amulets of protection, crowns and jeweled sceptres.
